Rivers State Governor Supports Medical Professionals with N300m Grant for Resident Doctors

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has made a significant move to support medical professionals in the state by approving the release of over N300 million as a grant to 389 resident doctors in the State Civil Service. This funding covers the Residency Training Grant requirements for two consecutive years, 2023-2024, with each resident doctor set to receive payments ranging from N800,000 to N900,000 per year. So far, 215 resident doctors benefited from the grant in 2023, while 174 have received the funding in 2024.

This development is expected to boost the morale of resident doctors in Rivers State and enhance the quality of medical training and healthcare services in the region. Governor Fubara's administration has set a new record in healthcare funding with this milestone, as residency training grants have only been paid twice in the past 16 years, with the last payment made in 2018.

By prioritizing this strategic action, Governor Fubara has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting the professional development of doctors at both the Junior and Senior residency cadres. This investment in improving the capacity of healthcare personnel is poised to enhance the quality of healthcare services available to the people of Rivers State.

With such comprehensive support for residency training, Governor Fubara believes that the benefitting medical doctors will be well-equipped to offer the best service while working in the employ of the state government. This initiative underscores the importance of ongoing training and development for healthcare professionals in the region.
